Salt Heart

grieves
world misery,
suffering
it does not know
cannot prevent,
can escape
knowing,
chooses not.

It looks
to the church
for succor
until the pope
looks away.

The heart
turns,
finds comfort
in what
is buried
and rises,
plants
Rose of Sharon.
